Because Sometimes “Ish” is as Holy as It Gets
There’s a scripture in Doctrine & Covenants that says:
“Organize yourselves; prepare every needful thing; and establish a house, even a house of prayer, a house of fasting, a house of faith… a house of order.”
(D&C 88:119)
It sounds beautiful, doesn’t it?
But what if your “house of order” has Cheerios under the couch and last week’s primary lesson still taped to the fridge?
What if the laundry never ends, the baby’s screaming, and you just found your Diet Coke for the third time—but you said a prayer in the car on the way to pick up groceries and read one verse of scripture while brushing your teeth?
Guess what? That counts.
That absolutely counts.
Because while God is a God of order, He’s also the God of grace.
There’s a funny kind of pressure that comes with wanting to do everything right. We imagine the “house of order” being pristine, perfectly choreographed, and quiet (wouldn’t that be something?). But in real life, motherhood looks more like:
• A kitchen table covered in coloring pages and crumbs
• Laundry “stations” that double as furniture
• Half-finished projects, sticky doorknobs, and noise
And in the middle of all that chaos?
A mother doing her best.
The idea for this quote—Her house is a house of order-ish—was born from a deep truth: that order and holiness don’t always look polished. Sometimes “ish” is the most honest version of order we can manage in a given season.
And that’s okay.
Because heaven sees your effort. God honors your heart. And love—real, messy, consistent love—is the most powerful form of spiritual order there is.
If you’ve ever felt like your home is mostly in order—when viewed from a generous angle and dim lighting—this design is for you. It’s not just a phrase. It’s a wink. A nod. A deep breath. A reminder that the work you’re doing matters.
So hang the sign. Wear the tee. Stick the sticker on your laptop.
Let the world know:
Her house is a house of order-ish… and that’s holy ground.
